Poland has established a trade office in Vietnam and this is one of the first overseas representative offices of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.
In the reception for newly-appointed Polish Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel in Hanoi on October 31, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that having served as a trade counsellor in Vietnam for many years, the ambassador will bring bilateral economic and trade ties to a new level.
Recognizing the advantages of working in Vietnam, Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel affirmed that this would help him further promote the two countries’ relationship.
Highlighting his special sentiment towards Vietnam, the ambassador said the Vietnamese community, including students, in Poland is a bridge that helps to tighten bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Mentioning cooperation priorities with Vietnam during his term, Gerwel said he will prioritize enhancing cooperation in politics, economy, education-training and culture. He hoped for closer coordination between the Polish Embassy and Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities.
Emphasizing the economic ties, the ambassador said that Poland has strengths in agriculture, food, pharmaceutical production, shipbuilding, mining, thus the country wishes to promote cooperation with Vietnam in these fields.
Poland has established a trade office in Vietnam and this is one of the first overseas representative offices of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, showing the importance the country attaches to economic links with Vietnam, Gerwel noted.
He expressed his belief that the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will take effect soon. Gerwel added that Poland's national flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines plans to open a direct air route to Vietnam. This route will help shorten the two countries’ distance and facilitate tourism cooperation.
In agreement with the ambassador's comments, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc pledged the best possible conditions for the ambassador to promote collaboration with Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities.
The PM noted that there remains much room for trade ties and bilateral trade to rise strongly from the current two-way trade turnover of over US$1 billion.
Phuc asked Poland to promote the signing and ratification of the EVFTA, adding that the two sides should also work closely to disburse the preferential credit package of EUR250 million which Poland pledged for Vietnam and signed during Polish President Andrzej Duda’s visit to Vietnam last November.
Expressing his delight at the planned opening of the Vietnam-Poland direct air route, PM Phuc believed that it would help bolster investment, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.
