Japan’s conglomerate Mitsui Corporation and Honda Motor have been stepping up investment activities in Vietnam and consider the country an important market, the governmental portal reported.

At present, Minh Phu’s shrimp exports reach US$700 million per year, and are expected to increase to US$1 billion through the partnership with Mitsui Corporation, Yasunaga said in a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 15.
Yasunaga also informed that the group is working with Vietnam’s ministries and agencies to facilitate the Block B gas project reportedly worth US$1.27 billion in the southern province of Kien Giang.
Prime Minister Phuc highly regarded Mitsui’s recent investments in Vietnam, especially as the country is targeting to achieve shrimp export turnover of US$10 billion.
Phuc stressed the Vietnamese government pays special attention to the Block B gas project, which would provide the much-needed electricity to the country's southern provinces.
At the meeting with CEO of Honda Motor Seiji Kuraishi, Phuc requested the Japanese company to aid the development of Vietnam’s supporting industry.
According to Kuraishi, Honda Motor has expanded its operation into automobile manufacturing and Vietnam is one the company’s major markets.
In response, Phuc said Vietnam’s government has always been supportive and strives to create favorable conditions for Japanese companies, including Honda, to be successful in Vietnam.
