The central province of Quang Tri has recently drawn many investment projects in hi-tech and organic agriculture, contributing to restructuring the agricultural sector toward creating clean products with high added value.
The Quang Tri People’s Committee has allowed FAM, an farm produce company owned by FLC Group, to develop a project named “an agricultural production zone applying high-tech FAM” in Cam Lo district with a total investment of VND371 billion (US$16.4 million).
The project is carried out from June 2018 to April 2019 on an area of 200 hectares, producing clean and safe fruits such as dragon fruit, passion fruit and melon for both domestic sales and exports.
Accordingly, ISE Foods Inc. - a major Japanese food processing company is investing in cattle feed production and chicken raising farms in Trieu Phong and Vinh Linh districts. Sumitomo Group of Japan is supporting the production of melons using high technology in Gio Linh district.
The provincial People’s Committee and Dong Giao Foodstuff Export Joint Stock Company poured over VND79.5 billion (US$3.5 million) into developing a pineapple cultivation area in Vinh Linh, Cam Lo and Dakrong districts in 2017-2020.
Meanwhile, Quang Tri Minerals Joint Stock Company has injected VND20 billion (US$884,000) into growing vegetables and fruits on coastal sandy soil in Vinh Linh district.
Attracting investment in hi-tech and organic agriculture is one of the top priorities of Quang Tri province.
Therefore, the province has focused on supporting businesses and individuals with land and capital to promote the application of high technology in agriculture, especially for key plants such as pepper, rice, vegetables, and fruits along with animal husbandry.
