Hanoi-based forum boosts trade with overseas Vietnamese in Thailand

The forum is aimed at attracting overseas investment to contribute to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

A series of cooperation agreements have been signed between the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and the Thailand-Vietnam Business Council and between enterprises in the fields of high-tech agriculture, tourism, and apparel.

These activities took place at the forum connecting businesses in Hanoi and Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Thailand on July 11.

These activities were aimed at realizing the plan to promote the "Vietnamese Buy Vietnamese Products" campaign among the overseas Vietnamese community.

The forum was expected to create opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises in Hanoi to introduce businesses and investment potential to overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs and boost the consumption of Vietnamese products abroad.

At the forum, Le Thi Thu Hang, Assistant to the Foreign Minister, said Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and the 9th largest foreign investor in Vietnam.

Since the economies of Vietnam and Thailand are among the most dynamic in the region, with similarities in consumer culture and products and services, there is still plenty of room to further promote bilateral trade and cooperation in some fields such as energy, logistics, finance, agriculture, and investment.

Hang added that overseas Vietnamese businesses in Thailand are growing in terms of scale and diversification, contributing to the development of the homeland and the host country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to actively work with other ministries, departments, branches, and localities to organize business matching activities for Vietnamese enterprises and those owned by Vietnameses in Thailand.

Currently, there are 1,000 Vietnamese companies abroad in Thailand, mainly small and medium-sized ones operating in many fields, according to the Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh. He said the potential for investment and trade cooperation between the two countries is very large and can be realized thanks to the promotion programs between the localities and companies of the two countries.

From July 3 to 10, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, in coordination with the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand, organized a business matching session between national overseas businessmen and those from Danang city, Ho Chi Minh City, and Quang Nam, Kien Giang, Bac Giang provinces.
