Hanoi releases plan for sustainable production and consumption

Hanoi will take concerted action focusing on the circular economy and promoting domestic production and spending.

Hanoi's textile, beverage, steel, and plastics industries aim to reduce material and fuel inputs by 5% to 8% by the end of 2025 as part of the city's newly released plan to implement the National Action Program on Sustainable Production and Consumption.

The plan aims to support businesses in adopting innovative solutions, digital transformation, and sustainable practices. It also seeks investment collaborations for local companies and international supply chains.

Hanoi's manufacturing sectors will apply advanced technology and promote green employment while improving living standards and environmental protection.

The city aims to promote awareness of sustainable lifestyle and consumption citywide and all industrial zones and 70% of traditional craft villages will be equipped with knowledge of sustainable practices.

Hanoi is also targeting 70% of traditional markets and 100% of supermarkets and shopping centers to phase out non-biodegradable plastic bags and switch to environmentally friendly packaging alternatives.

The Department of Industry and Trade will work with other agencies and businesses to develop a sustainable distribution network that fosters partnerships between retailers and suppliers of environmentally friendly products.

The agency will provide information and guidance to consumers about organic products and items labeled as environmentally friendly.

In September, the department, in partnership with the Cau Giay District People's Committee, launched a campaign to promote green and sustainable consumption, along with a program for sustainable cooperation between retailers and suppliers of green products.

These included the Sustainable Production and Consumption Cooperation Networks in the Ceramics Industry (Gia Lam District), Agro-Processing Industry (Ha Dong District), and Traditional Craft Villages and OCOP Products (Nam Tu Liem District).

These activities provided a comprehensive view of the sustainable production and consumption network and enriched the city's tourism offerings, ensuring an enjoyable experience for visitors to the capital.
