Hanoi achieves high growth in all fields and sectors

The Hanoi Party Committee has recently organized the conference on evaluating the implementation of missions of socio-economic development, assurance of national security and defence in the first quarter of 2018 as well as deploying key tasks in the last months of the year in the Capital city.

According to a report of the Party Commission of the Municipal People’s Committee, in the first quarter of 2018, Hanoi’s GRDP increased to 6.98%, higher than the same period last year (6.48%); services, industry – construction and agro – forestry – fishery sector rose 7.05%, 7.24% and 2.04% respectively; the state budget revenue was estimated at VND 58,088 billion, up 12.3% compared to the same period last year and equal to 24.4% against the estimate.
In addition, in the first quarter of the year, the total revenue from retail sales and services witnessed a surge of 12.4% in comparison with the same period last year; consumer price index posted a year on year increase of 2.54%; export turnover reached US$ 3.15 billion, up 16.9%; import turnover was estimated at US$ 7.29 billion, up 15.1% compared to the same period last year.
Moreover, Hanoi has improved its investment environment. Particularly, PCI ranks 13th among 63 provinces and cities throughout the country (for the first time in history); social investment fetched VND 54,664 billion, up 9.5%; 11 off-budget capital projects  worth VND 11.34 billion were approved; FDI capital reached US$ 400 million; a total of 5,392 business licenses were issued, etc.
Especially, the total number of travelers was estimated at 6.7 million turns, up 9%, including 1,58 million turns of international arrivals to Hanoi, representing a year on year surge of 21%; total revenue for tourists fetched VND 19.91 trillion, up 8%.
Besides, Hanoi has focused on building new style rural areas over the past quarter. The city completed dossiers to recognise 39 additional new style rural communes, increasing the total number of new style rural localities to 294, accounting for 76.2%.
According to Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Le Hong Thang, in the first quarter, the city’s total revenue of retail sales of goods was higher than the same period last year but lower than the average figure of the country.
Thus, he suggested that the city, departments, sectors and districts should further strengthen administrative reform and remove difficulties for enterprises to promote their production and trade.
Speaking at the session, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung answered some proposals of departments, sectors and districts relating to building concentrated animal slaughterhouses, wholesale markets and industrial clusters.
Regarding to industrial clusters, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said that Hanoi approved the general planning on industrial clusters in the area. In the coming time, the Municipal People’s Committee will have a working session with relevant departments, sectors and enterprises to accelerate the plan, he added.
