Hanoi starts building F1 race circuit with unique design

Designed by Formula 1 Group and Tilke Company (Germany), the Hanoi F1 race will ensure the most stringent technical criteria and rigorous safety of equipment and materials in accordance with the Federation Internationale de l`Automobile (FIA)’s standards.

The Hanoi People's Committee and Vietnam Grand Prix Company, a subsidiary of conglomerate Vingroup, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the F1 circuit in Nam Tu Liem district on March 20.

The Hanoi F1 circuit and functional areas cover a total area of ​​88 ha, including part of My Dinh Sports Complex and some of the existing public roads.

The track is 5,565km long, including 22 turns designed in resemblance with the world's most fascinating racetrack in Germany, Monaco and Japan. 

Designed by Formula 1 Group and Tilke Company (Germany), the Hanoi F1 race will ensure the most stringent technical criteria and rigorous safety of equipment and materials in accordance with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)’s standards.

The groundbreaking ceremony the Hanoi F1 circuit is the official start for the world's most prestigious car racing in Vietnam, contributing to promoting Hanoi and Vietnam’s image to the world, creating a premise to attract investment, technology, as well as important and influential international events to Vietnam.

It is expected that the Hanoi F1 circuit will be completed in March 2020.

Speaking at the ceremony, FIA’s President Jean Todt said that hosting the Formula 1 race will bring Hanoi and Vietnam the opportunity to promote the country's image to international friends. Besides, the exciting race will inspire the young generation, encouraging the would-be champions. He pledged to do his best to make the tournament a great success as well as to improve traffic safety in Vietnam.

For his part, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said the groundbreaking ceremony is a milestone towards organizing the Hanoi F1 race in April 2020.

Chung stressed that this is an opportunity for Vietnam to train young racers and raise all people’s awareness of traffic safety to reduce road accidents in the city as well as around the country.
