Hanoi expects to cooperate with Italy in the pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics, interior design, fashion, renovation of old town, architecture, as well as building smart city and subway lines.
Hanoi wants to cooperate with Italian businesses in numerous fields, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said while hosting a reception for Enrico Letta, former prime minister of Italy, president of the Italy-ASEAN Association on June 5.
Briefing the guest on the socio-economic situation of the capital in recent years, Chung said that in the development orientation for the period 2016-2020, the city’s authority identified three breakthroughs which are administrative reform, infrastructure investment and development of highly-qualified human resources.
As one of the 17 largest capitals in the world, Hanoi aims to take people and businesses as the focal point for its services, expand cooperation with business community in the world, especially in Europe, including Italy, Chung added.
He cited that every year more than 2,000 cultural and social events take place in the capital, which owns more than a thousand cultural-relics, many of which are recognized by UNESCO as cultural relics. Especially, Hanoi is among a few cities in Asia with a combination of European and Asian culture.
As Vietnam’s second largest economic hub, Hanoi contributes 16.8% to the national budget revenue annually. In the past three years, Hanoi has become the leading locality in attracting direct foreign investment (FDI) nationwide, with US$7.5 billion in 2018.
In addition, the city also faces many challenges in the development process such as increasing population, creating jobs, shortage of investment capital for transport infrastructure, the chairman said.
Chung stressed that Hanoi also expects to cooperate with Italy in the pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics, interior design, fashion, renovation of old town, architecture, as well as building smart city and subway lines.
The chairman said that the 3rd High-Level Dialogue on Italy-ASEAN Economic Relations gathers the largest ever participation of Italian enterprises in Hanoi, and expressed his hope that the conference will be successful, opening up many opportunities for ASEAN and Italian businesses.
For his part, Enrico Letta said that the 3rd High-Level Dialogue on Italy-ASEAN Economic Relations in Hanoi not only demonstrates the commitment of Hanoi’s leaders to the international business community but also shows the city’s prestige and role which is increasingly improved.
The former prime minister expressed his confidence that Hanoi will become more prosperous, reap many achievements in all fields, especially in economic development and Italy will continue to be an important partner of the capital.
