Many foreigners to join 6th Ho Chi Minh City Marathon next year
Marathon has become the spiritual food for people in Ho Chi Minh City in recent years as the marathon helps to make your heart and body stronger.
The sixth Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon is expected to attract not only Vietnamese athletes, but also to welcome runners from 49 countries and territories such as Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia, helping to promote the attractive destination of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam to international friends.
The race themed “Big Dream” will not only will be held on January 13, 2019 in district 7 with competition distances of marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), (10km) and Kids Dash (1km), the Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper reported.
In which, Kids Dash, the fun run is designed especially for children to encourage them to be active and healthy through participating in the 1km (Kids Dash) and 2km (Kids Dash Ultra) race route.
The first international marathon of Vietnam named “Ho Chi Minh City Marathon” took place in February 1992. This was the first sporting event and a surprise move since the liberation of 1975 and the city started to welcome tourists since 1987.
The first Ho Chi Minh City Marathon drew the participation of nearly 250 athletes from 26 countries and territories. At that time, Vietnamese people were still very dim on the definition of "marathon". Among the participating athletes, there were 92 Vietnamese athletes and only eight of them had ever run in Marathons.
In 2017, the event drew 8,000 runners, showing the growing popularity of the Ho Chi Minh City Marathon. Those who want to take part in the tournament can register at www.hcmcmarathon.com.
