Documents on August Revolution to be showcased at Hanoi Old Book Fair
The Hanoi August Old Book Fair has become an annual event for book lovers.
Books and newspaper published in 1946 featuring the August Revolution (August 19th) and National Day (September 2nd) will be displayed at a book fair to be held in Hanoi this week.
The Hanoi August Old Book Fair will take place at the Vietnam Exhibition Center for Culture and Arts (2 Hoa Lu street, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi) from August 16 to 19.
Book lovers will find rare materials such as an edition of Su That (The Truth) newspaper from August 16th, 1946, Lao Dong’s edition No 83 in 1949, Cuu Quoc (Saving the Nation)’s edition No 813 in 1949 and Nhan Dan’s edition from September 2nd, 1952.
The event attracted many old book traders such as Old Books at Cheap Prices, Trieu Hai Book Store, Kim Ma Old Books, Hai Ba Trung District’s Old Books, Phuc Cuong Old Books, Thai Ha Bookstore, Bach Mai Old Books and Duy Minh Old Books, etc.
Accordingly, all publishing houses will introduce to readers many kinds of books including, literature, history, culture, life, business, military, politics, etc. All book titles will be sold at prices ranging from VND5,000 - 20,000 (US$0.2 - 0.8).
In 2016, the event opened at Hanoi University of Culture and attracted thousands of readers and dozens of publishing houses, as well as collectors and old bookstores.
The highlight of the event was books with historical value. Books from the August Revolution and the Independence Day period were showcased.
Earlier, 28 students in Hanoi were honored as being “Ambassadors of Reading Culture” during the 2017 - 2018 school year. The contest, the second of its kind, was launched by the city’s departments of Education and Training, Communication and Education, and Culture and Sports with the aim of promoting the habit of reading among students.
