The Hanoi`s long-delayed metro line has finished the power-up and first trial run.
The test run began at 8:30 a.m on August 9, starting from Cat Linh station to Ha Dong station, which are the two ends of the route. This is a milestone that marks new hope for the metro line to be officially put into commercial operation.
With the successful test run, the project has met the schedule set by Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The at a meeting on June 28.
During the meeting, Minister Nguyen Van The asked the project's management board to connect the railway with the national grid since July 15 and finish the power connection for the line's test run in early August.
According to Minister The, some categories of the project still lag behind the schedule, including stations, connection sections, appraisal and operation.
The test run was initially planned to be on September 2. However, the process was sped up to start in early August. Until now, the project has finished the power-up and the first test run.
The metro line's trial time will last for about three to six months before the official commercial operation.
Work on the Cat Linh-Ha Dong railway line, which runs for more than 13 km, began in October 2011 and was originally planned for completion in 2013. But several hurdles, including issues with the Chinese contractor, have stalled the project for a number of years
