This is the second visit paid by Cambodian top leaders over the past two weeks.
Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni is in a three-day “friendship building” visit to Vietnam where he met Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi on December 19.
The Cambodian king was warmly welcomed by the Vietnamese president, who said that the king is a close friend of the Vietnamese people and praised the achievements of the Cambodian people at the meeting.
Trong stressed that the king’s ongoing leisure tour to Danang showed his special sentiments to Vietnam and invited the King and Queen Mother to make a state visit or a leisure tour to Vietnam at a convenient time.
This is the second visit paid by Cambodian top leaders over the past two weeks.
During his official visit to Vietnam on December 6-8, Prime Minister Hun Sen met with Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
During Hun Sen’s visit, the two countries signed six documents including agreements on transportation, border trade, border demarcation, and disbursement of non-refundable capital from Vietnam.
In Vietnam, Hun Sen affirmed that Cambodia will host no foreign military bases as rumored because the country never seeks to use force or threatens to use force against its neighbors.
Efforts to deepen the “comprehensive and sustainable friendship” and economic ties are the focus of the visits. At present, Vietnam is the second biggest foreign investor in Cambodia with registered investment worth US$3 billion and the two-way trade set to hit US$5 billion by 2020.
