Hanoi advances dialogue-based peace on Korean Peninsula: FM says in Pyongyang
Hanoi is willing to contribute to the progress which is encouraged to be made through dialogues.
Vietnam keeps pushing forward peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and is willing to contribute to the progress which is encouraged to be made through dialogues, the Vietnamese top diplomat has said in Pyongyang.
Hanoi reaffirms its persistent stance on the dialogue-based maintenance of peace on the peninsula, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh said in an ongoing visit to Pyongyang from February 12 to 14.
At a meeting between Minh and his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong Ho, the two sides agreed to cooperate at regional and international forums and issues that both countries share the same stance, the Vietnamese foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Minh pledged that Vietnam would make efforts to promote the cooperation in some sectors which are suitable for each and for mutual interests.
He stated that Vietnam is agreeable to share experiences in the building and development of the country if North Korea asks for.
In talks with Minh, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho expressed Pyongyang’s wish to intensify the bilateral relations which will mark the 70th anniversary in 2020. He thanked Vietnam for its dependable stance and efforts in maintaining the peace on the peninsula for years.
Vietnam’s FM visits North Korea ahead of the second meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which is scheduled to take place in Hanoi on February 27-28.
The reason Hanoi is chosen for the summit is that Vietnam is considered a successful economic model for North Korea to learn about while keeping its political regime.
Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said last week Vietnam is "willing to make positive contributions... for a successful US-North Korea summit."
