The newly appointed Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ho Chi Minh City will begin her position today.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Ho Chi Minh City (AmCham Vietnam HCMC) has announced the appointment of Mary Tarnowka, former United States Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, as its Executive Director.
In an official statement, AmCham Vietnam HCMC stated Mary has extensive experience helping US businesses thrive in Asia. As US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City from August 2016 to July 2019, she oversaw a period of tremendous growth in the US comprehensive partnership, including two unprecedented visits by two US presidents to Vietnam in 18 months.
Additionally, Mary actively promoted mutual peace, prosperity, and people-to-people ties in central and southern Vietnam. She particularly focused on strengthening the bilateral trade and investment partnership in the dynamic southern region.
AmCham Vietnam National Chairwoman and Chief Operating Officer of ITL Corporation Amanda Rasmussen believes Mary’s deep expertise on trade and economic issues and background as part of the US Mission leadership in Vietnam will create new strategic opportunities for AmCham’s members, including strengthening advocacy with both the Vietnamese and US governments.
“Mary’s perspective and unique professional background will usher in a new era for AmCham Vietnam HCMC. We are thrilled Mary will lead our organization and support our members moving forward with her expertise in US-Vietnam trade and investment,“ said Rasmussen.
“As we embark on our 25th year, AmCham Vietnam HCMC is fortunate to have Mary lead the organization and provide the vision needed to enhance membership value while ensuring we fulfill our mission to promote trade, investment, and goodwill between the United States and Vietnam. The bilateral relationship has matured greatly and grown more complex,” AmCham Vietnam HCMC Board Member and Vietnam Trade Alliance CEO Walter Blocker added.
Mary will begin her position in Ho Chi Minh City today (August 19). “I look forward to serving as the Executive Director of AmCham Vietnam HCMC and creating new business opportunities for AmCham’s members, while strengthening US-Vietnam trade and investment ties. Personally, I am delighted to return to Ho Chi Minh City, where I have made my home,” she said.
