Development impossible without innovation: Vietnam PM

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with more than 100 outstanding young Vietnamese scientists and academics in the fields of science and technology joining the Program of Connecting Vietnam Innovation Network 2018 in Hanoi on August 19.

At the launching ceremony of the Program of Connecting Vietnam Innovation Network 2018, PM Phuc emphasized that it is impossible to develop the nation without innovation.

The Program of Connecting Vietnam Innovation Network 2018 is taking place from August 18-24, with over 100 young Vietnamese representing in the field of science and technology in foreign countries.

The event is part of an array of programs expected to contribute to Vietnam's rapid advance in science, technology and economy. It was jointly held by the Ministries of Planning and Investment, Science and Technology, Foreign Affairs, and Education and Training and a number of agencies, localities and organizations.

PM Phuc affirmed that without scientific and technological advances, the country cannot develop. The Vietnamese government is always keen on promoting the development of science and technology, and considers the Industrial Revolution 4.0 a great opportunity.

It is impossible to develop the nation without innovation, he stressed at a meeting on Sundaly morning with young outstanding intellectuals living overseas.

The government is developing a national strategy for the Industrial Revolution 4.0, with high resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with technological powers. This is one of the solutions to promote the establishment of innovative centers at Vietnam’s high technology parks, such as Hoa Lac high-tech park in Hanoi, the PM stressed.


Emphasizing the role of domestic and foreign experts, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that the Vietnamese government would create the best environment for overseas Vietnamese intellectuals to develop their knowledge and experiences to serve their country.

Therefore, PM Phuc said that it is necessary to further develop the network of innovation in a longer term.

The PM hoped that experts and intellectuals would continue to contribute to the successful development of e-government in order to direct and administer the government more effectively. 

Asking the Vietnamese ministers to listen to the intellectuals’ opinions, PM Phuc affirmed that Vietnamses government will create all conditions for the overseas Vietnamese intellectuals to directly participate in projects and programs of science and technology.

National strategy for Industry 4.0

Making speech at the Program of Connecting Vietnam Innovation Network 2018, the Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that at the prime minister's order, the Ministry of Planning and Investment is urgently coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to formulate the National Strategy for the Industrial Revolution 4.0, in which centers for innovation and mobilization of talents, intellectuals in the field of science and technology are the core.

The program gathered more than 100 scientists and technology specialists representing the generation of talented Vietnamese intellectuals learning and working abroad, together with hundreds of overseas Vietnamese and domestic scientists who exchanged and shared visions as well as strategies for scientific and technological development in the sectors that Vietnam needs to accelerate in the coming time, Dung added.

Vietnamese government’s ministries and agencies will listen to and consider the opinions of talented young people on Industry 4.0-based solutions, from which, they can advise the government to formulate strategies, institutions and legal frameworks to form an ecosystem through development and replication of centers for innovative and effective innovation in the country, Dung stressed.

Through the Program of Connecting Vietnam Innovation Network 2018, more Vietnamese talents and intellectuals all over the world are combined with domestic and foreign scientists, technology specialists and entrepreneurs to create a new driving force to lift Vietnam unceasingly, to compete with the advanced countries in the world, Dung said.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciates the return of young people representing overseas Vietnamese scientists and intellectuals, especially in the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is a great opportunity for developing countries like Vietnam, to transform the economy with breakthroughs, Dung said.

PM Phuc’s enthusiasm and fervor has inspired all Vietnamese for Vietnam’s process of innovation and development. The Vietnamese government pledges to make maximum efforts to create the most favorable conditions for Vietnamese talents to live and work in their homeland, so that they can be free to innovate and sacrifice, Minister Dung stressed.
