Recalling his successful visit to New Zealand in March 2018, PM Phuc stressed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to the ASEAN-New Zealand strategic partnership.

Emphasizing the good relationship between New Zealand and Vietnam, the PM suggested the two sides promote trade and investment cooperation, especially the two-way trade increase that is still modest.

Phuc praised New Zealand for its famous and successful kiwifruit value chain, and asked New Zealand to assist Vietnam in organizing and producing value chains for dragon fruit to boost export to the world as well as cooperation in producing and exporting avocado in Vietnam.

During his first visit to Vietnam, the New Zealand minister expressed his impression of Vietnam’s dynamic development and had some meetings with Vietnamese agencies, ministries and localities to promote agricultural cooperation and some other fields.

Agreeing with PM Phuc’s opinion on the value chain development for Vietnam’s dragon fruit, Minister Damien O'Connor said that New Zealand has been very successful with the development of kiwifruit value chain, from selecting varieties to preserving and exporting.

New Zealand is willing to support Vietnam to organize production and create a value chain for Vietnamese dragon fruit to boost exports of this fruit to the world, Damien O'Connor added.

He also said that Vietnam can build a value chain for avocado to boost exports and New Zealand stands ready to cooperate with Vietnam in food safety management and other fields.
