On January 26, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for a delegation of nearly 100 overseas Vietnamese returning home for the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday as part of the 2019 Homeland Spring program.
Representatives of overseas Vietnamese were delighted at the great achievements of the country in 2018 and expressed their impression of the spirit of determination and effort of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam.
Sharing experiences in entrepreneurship in all areas of the host countries with the Prime Minister, young Vietnamese expats also wanted to receive support from the Government in developing technology knowledge bases and science, through which to produce Vietnamese branded products. Overseas Vietnamese also hope that the Government of Vietnam to be active in simplifying procedures for granting work permits, starting business, through which to attract more young people to participate in the construction process and develop the country.
Extending the 2019 Lunar New Year wishes to the expats, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc briefed them on the socio-economic, defence, security and cultural achievements of the country in 2018 and the contributions of the Vietnamese community abroad. In addition, he affirmed that achievements in all aspects of the country over the past time have been possible thanks to important contributions from overseas compatriots both intellectually and resources. The Prime Minister stressed that the Government is patient and trying to reform institutions, so as for the business environment of Vietnam to stand at the top of ASEAN and investors including overseas Vietnamese to invest in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister also appreciated many overseas Vietnamese people who have recently collected and searched for precious historical documents about the national sovereignty over sea and islands, contributing to protecting the country territory.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hopes that overseas Vietnamese will continue to preserve the traditional culture of the nation in each family, especially in education and teaching Vietnamese for their children. At the same time, he hoped they would continue to promote economic cooperation between Vietnam and other countries, especially commercial activities and call for investment in Vietnam, along with expanding the distribution network, introducing Vietnamese goods at foreign market. The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government always listened to the comments of overseas Vietnamese, as well as removed obstacles to ensure the peace of mind for business cooperation and investment in Vietnam.
“Homeland Spring” is an annual program organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The annual event which was first organized in 2008, aims to provide a platform for overseas Vietnamese to share their aspirations and thoughts and honor those who have contributed to the homeland’s development.
There are approximately 4.5 million Vietnamese living and working in 103 countries and territories worldwide. They form an indispensable part of the nation and play an important role in intensifying friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the rest of the world.
