Buckwheat flowers bloom in Hanoi

Hanoians have been gathering at Thach Cau Street in Hanoi to admire the Tam Giac Mach (buckwheat) flowers, which are usually only seen in Ha Giang province.
The Tam Giac Mach flower garden at Thach Cau Street in Hanoi spans an area of 5,000 square metres. Buckwheat bears tiny pinkish-white flowers with triangular-shaped leaves.
Buckwheat is common across Vietnam's Northern mountainous region. The blossoming of this kind of flowers in Hanoi attracts more and more visitors to the capital city. Young people visit the garden to take wedding photos, or capture snapshots of precious memories.
The buckwheat flowers here were planted in January. Many visitors flocked to the field in early morning for capturing the buckwheat flowers in white and pastel pink. Each entrance ticket for random visit costs VND70,000 (US$3) and visitors are to pay an addition fee of VND50,000 (US$2.2) if they want to take photos with sheep or horses inside the field.
A buckwheat crop normally lasts from September to December and the most beautiful one is in Ha Giang province. The locals plant the flowers everywhere, from the slopes of the mountains to the deep valley, under the winding mountain passes. The small white or pink flowers can thrive in the barren mountainous terrain. Leave behind the busy city life, tourists like to immerse themselves amid the flower fields and walk the Dong Van Plateau.
The third Buckwheat Flower Festival is being held from November 24 to December 31 in Dong Van, Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Meo Vac districts and Ha Giang City. The theme of this year festival is Love Song from the Rocks. The festival aims to honour the unique cultural values of Dong Van Karst Plateau, promote tourism and further develop the buckwheat flowers into the provincial tourism brand.
