Bebinca storm, the fourth one hitting Vietnam this year, has left heavy damage in Vietnam`s northern and north central provinces.
According to initial reports from storm-affected provinces, four have died, one has gone missing and many places have been isolated due to flooding as after Bebinca storm landed on Vietnam on August 16.
Four of the victims were in the central province of Nghe An, where many villages in mountainous areas are still isolated as local roads are submerged under flood water or damaged by landslides.
From the night of August 16 to August 17, due to the influence of Bebinca storm, the districts of Tay Hieu, Quy Hop, Quynh Luu and Ky Son in Nghe An province had rainfall of 180-250mm.
According to initial statistics of Nghe An province, Que Phong district has two houses collapsed due to fallen trees. Quynh Luu district has more than 160 houses flooded. More than 300m of dikes in Quynh Luu are damaged.
Rainfall in Nghe An has decreased, but the flood on the Ca river is rising. Nghe An province’s leaders requested the districts and towns to monitor the floods in order to relocate people in low-lying areas which are in risk of landslides and flash floods.
Many highways in Thanh Hoa province are isolated after the storm, provinces of Quan Son, Quan Hoa, Ba Thuoc, Muong Lat suffered from landslides.
On August 17, entering the waters of Nam Dinh - Thanh Hoa, Bebinca storm weakened into a tropical low pressure in the west of Thanh Hoa, with maximum winds of 45 km/h (level 7), according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Circulation before and during the storm caused heavy rain for the north and north central region, with the total rainfall of 50-150 mm. Son La, Hoa Binh suffered from heavy rain, over 200mm. Meteorological authorities warned of the risk of landslides in districts of Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Anh Son (Nghe An), Da Bac, Mai Chau, Lac Thuy (Hoa Binh).
