The benefit is expected to even cover those needy people having no papers proving they are Hanoi’s residents and children under six year old.
From September 1, seniors aged above 60 years old, revolutionary veterans, disabled and low-income people in Hanoi will be entitled to free bus travel, the Government Portal quoted a representative from Hanoi Public Transport Management and Operation Center as saying.
The benefit is expected to even cover those needy people having no papers proving they are Hanoi’s residents and children under six year old, the source added.
To benefit from this Hanoi policy, the entitled people are required to submit applications including a 3x4 photo and relevant papers at nearly 50 bus ticket counters across the city, and receive the passes at once.
Prior to the date, Hanoi's Department of Transport and Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has issued a guidance of the bus pass issue, management and free use of public transport across the city.
The bus passes are valid for five years since the day of issue while those for poor households will be valid until the end of December this year.
The move aims to realize the decision of the Hanoi People’s Council on the development of mass public transportation as Hanoi is currently home to around 700,000 seniors and 64,000 low-income earners.
Besides, Hanoi also seeks to promote the use public transports, contributing to curbing personal vehicles as well as reducing congestion and traffic accidents.
