Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh and thousands of people marched to promote the campaign "wearing helmets for children" in Hanoi on September 8, local media reported.The event was attended by 3,000 first grade pupils in the school year of 2019-2020, teachers, parents along with some famous artists and a large number of Hanoi residents.

Besides, the campaign aims to make wearing helmet for children a habit of the whole society when hitting the road.
Also at the event, a signing ceremony for jointly executing the program "Strengthening traffic safety education in schools during the period of 2019-2024" was held between the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh expressed his desire that students across the country master the laws on road safety and comply with them as well as promote the values of safe transportation in the future.
The deputy PM noted that a survey in 10 provinces showed only around 60% of first-grade pupils wore helmets when they are driven to school while all of them were delivered helmets by late 2018.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said that this is one of the reasons why there are still about 2,000 children injured every year due to traffic accidents. In 2018, although the number decreased by nearly 12% compared to 2017, still 1,442 children fell victims to traffic accidents.
On September 5, at the school year opening ceremonies held nationwide, nearly two million first grade students nationwide were donated standard helmets. In today's event, 3,000 first graders were given helmets and instructions on how to wear them correctly.
