Hanoi strives to develop tourism e-commerce

Thanks to e-commerce applications in tourism activities, Hanoi is one of Vietnam’s cities in the world in terms of room reservations in 2018, according to Airbnb.

Hanoi city is making efforts to implement the master plan for tourism and e-commerce for the period of 2016-2020, with a focus on online tourism and smart tourism, the government portal reported.

As requested by the local government, the municipal Department of Tourism now publicly updates tourism businesses’ data on the department’s portal at sodulich.hanoi.gov.vn.

Most tourism businesses in the city have applied e-commerce in different scales and levels. Online services including room and tour online booking are on the rise. More than 60% of domestic tourists make hotel and tour reservations online while over 75% of international tourists do so.

More than 65% of standard hotels, shopping and dining facilities have installed point of sale (POS) machines or accept cashless payment.

Over 95% of tourist accommodation establishments, tourist service points are qualified to install and provide free wi-fi for tourists. Many tourism enterprises in the city have actively developed online technology applications to serve tourists.

A host of public places in the city such as Hoan Kiem Lake and the pedestrian space around it, culinary cultural street of Trinh Cong Son, December 19 book street, Noi Bai International Airport and some bus routes have free wi-fi.

Thanks to e-commerce applications in tourism activities, Hanoi is one of Vietnam’s two cities the world in 2018 having the most room reservations, according to Airbnb.
