The number of visitors to Quang Binh province surged by 18.4% in the nine months of 2018.
the central province of Quang Binh welcomed more than three million visitors in the nine months through September, an 18.4% increase from the same period last year, according to the municipal province Department of Tourism.
Of the total visitors in the nine months of 2018, 129,700 were foreign holidaymakers. With such growth, Quang Binh earned VND3.3 trillion (US$141.37 million) in revenue from tourism in the reviewed period.
The achievements are attributed to the provincial tourism sector’s efforts to strengthen management of tourism, tourism promotion activities both at home and abroad.
In the upcoming time, Quang Binh tourism sector will also work together with neighboring provinces to establish the connections in the central region.
Quang Binh has a 116.04-km coastal line and a 201.87 km border line with Laos. The province is famous for its cave systems, incredible mountain scenery and sprawling beaches. It is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and the world’s largest cave, Son Doong.
Earlier, the Son Doong Cave has been recognized the largest of its kind in the world by three international organizations, including Guinness (based in the UK), the Association World Record (based in Hong Kong) and WorldKings (based in the US and India).
The number of tourists to Son Doong Cave in the past five years was estimated at 2,900. In 2018 alone, Son Doong Cave welcomed 873 explorers. Of the total, 290 people came from the US, followed by 154 people from Vietnam, 76 people from Australia, according to Oxalis, the travel agency that hosts the tour.
The Son Doong tour will be closed from September to December 2018 for restoration of the cave ecosystem and set to reopen from January 2019. The Son Doong tour has begun to receive bookings from July this year until 2020.
The tour to the largest cave in the world has reduced its original duration of six days and five nights to four days and three nights, and the number of tourists allowed has been doubled.
In this US$3,000 tour price, 10% of tax is already included, US$660 is the environmental service fee that will be transferred to the management board of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
